THE LAST PUNA BAPTIST CHURCH SUNDAY IN THE OLD BUILDING

July 29, 2012

Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like Me, Declaring the end from the beginning,
And from ancient times things that are not yet done,
Saying, 'My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure,'

Isaiah 46:9-10

Faithful Prayer Warriors

The Parking Lot Was Full

The Last Worship Service

The Last Sermon

The Last Call to Worship

It was a beautiful day of mixed emotions, sentimental expressions of remembrance, and joy in all the Lord had done here in the past thirty years. The first thing I saw when I drove into the parking lot that morning was the familiar circle of faithful prayer warriors sitting outside under the tent. The misty rain matched the day's mood exactly.

Many people who hadn't been to church in awhile came that day to share their memories and their gratitude. The parking lot and the small old sanctuary were both full. Pastor Alan opened the service to anyone who wished to speak, and many did, some more than once. Some who spoke had been with Puna Baptist from the very beginning, some more than twenty-five years, some only a few years. But each one had been touched in a special way and wished to thank God, especially for how the church had blessed their children.

Many of the speakers had the new building in mind and related how the vision for a larger church had begun so long ago, and how thrilled they were to see the dream coming true. It was obvious to many that God had a plan and a time frame and that He brought the new building into being exactly when, where, and how He had planned "from ancient times".

Pastor Alan nostalgically shared, as he walked over to the middle of the altar area and pointed down to the floor, that it was "right here, twelve years ago, that I got down on my knees and proposed to Marlene." Thankfully, as we all know, she said "yes". Then Peter Tuck reminded us that it was on that very spot that he and Yelena were married nearly two years ago. Hence, you will see here, preserved for as long as this Website lasts, "The Spot" that made that old faded floor famous!
